Are you looking for an experience that is truly unique to Cochrane? Well, this is the package for you!

After spending a night in your choice of Cochrane’s many accommodation locations, you will be treated to a VIP tour of the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat. At the world’s largest human care facility for polar bears, you will learn about the bears who call Cochrane home, and just what it takes to care for them, from the people who know them best. The animal care team will take you onto a private walkway which allows uninterrupted views of the bear enclosures, then you will go behind the scenes to see just what goes into caring for the Arctic’s most iconic species.

Following your tour, spend the rest of the day exploring the Heritage Village on site, which depicts what living in Cochrane would have been like in 1920. You will also have to opportunity to view Ontario’s largest collection of vintage snowmobiles, at the Cochrane Vintage Snow Mobile Museum. But before heading out for the day, make sure to grab some souvenirs from the gift shop!

After another night of restful sleep, grab your swimmers or sneakers and pay a visit to the Tim Horton Events Centre. The pride of Cochrane’s sporting community, this centre features a full size hockey rink, swimming pool, gym and community hall. Most notably, it also plays home to the Tim Horton Museum. Born in Cochrane in January, 1930, Tim Horton has become a household name across Canada. Learn about what led to his success at this museum dedicated to his life and career.

Itinerary

Arrive in Cochrane at your leisure and check-in to one of the many different accommodations offered. Visit our ‘Stay’ page to see a full list of what’s on offer.

Arrive at the Polar Bear Habitat for 11am and be taken on a journey in polar bear care by the animal care team. You will receive a guided tour of the facility, first going up onto a private raised walkway to get a birds eye view of the enclosure, and possibly the bears. Next, you will be accompanied behind the scenes into the bear holding building, where you will able to see where the bears sleep at night, where their food is prepared, and how they receive veterinary care. This tour is designed to educate so make sure to ask any and all questions!

Following the tour, you are free to explore the rest of The Habitat, which includes a Heritage Village, Vintage Snow Mobile Museum and gift shop. To help you have the best experience, it is recommended that you allow the rest of the day after the tour to spend at The Habitat.

Enjoy a sleep in, then get ready for a self guided visit to the Tim Horton Events Centre. Featuring a swimming pool, hockey rink, fitness centre and community hall, this fantastic facility also includes a museum dedicated to Cochrane’s favourite hockey player. The Tim Horton museum gives you a look into the life and career of hockey great, Tim Horton.

If you’re feeling energetic, you can break a sweat in the 500 square foot fitness centre, then cool off in the swimming pool, which features a whirl pool, lazy river and 21′ foot high waterslide, all within a tropical, beach themed setting.

The Centre is open from 7:30am – 8:00pm Monday – Friday, and 9am – 5pm on the weekend.

Requirements

Please note: access to the private walkway at The Habitat requires climbing a steep ladder and the minimum age to take part in this aspect of the tour is 12 years old. Younger guests are still welcome on the rest of the tour and are encouraged to enjoy the viewers building while they wait.
